What is Biomimetics?

The Merriam-Webster online dictionary states that "Biomimetics is the study of the formation, structure, or function of biologically produced substances, materials, (as enzymes or silk) biological mechanisms, and processes (as protein synthesis or photosynthesis) especially for the purpose of synthesizing similar products by artificial mechanisms which mimic natural ones."

Who is Otto Schmitt?

 

 

Otto Schmitt is considered by many the creator of the term Biomimetics. The word was created in 1969 by combining the Greek Words Bios (Life) and Mimesis (Imitate). Schmitt is one the early giants in biomedical engineering.
