Biomiemtics was coined by Otto Schmitt. Biomimetics is still considered a very new young form of science or biotechnology. An early example of using biomimetics was accidental; it was Velcro invented by Swiss Inventor George de Mastrel, and velcro is meant to stimulate grasping effect of plant burrs. Another example is the military use of the UAV or unmaned aerial vehicles, which uses differnt types of insects for flying techniques. Radars in aircrafts or sonars in boats are said to imitate the effects of echolocation like bats. Biomimetics can be used in any type of engineering and design due to fact that we, as humans, can get inpirations from nature. Even today Biomimetics is making extradionary leaps for example we are making leg exoskeletons and concept designs from fishes like the Boxhead fish. In the future, scientists wish to create things like we saw in science fiction movies like full exoskeletons suits or combat robots.

Short history on how biomimetics started

A good example of biomimetics. You can see MIT Cheetah's first run in video to the left.
